Saturday 13th July – Walk **** Levington – mainly cloudy.

After yesterdays epic longboard sail from Felixstowe to Orford Lighthouse there were plans for an early morning session on the River Stour but with Landguard weather station down there was no way to check live wind so I decided to give it a miss. Mag and I were then at a loss end especially with it being cloudy with a hint of rain! In the end we decided to drive over to Levington Marina in hope of seeing the old wooden boats racing from Pin Mill. We parked by the marina entrance and having missed the race we decided to go for a walk first. We headed along the river path bordered by beautiful wild flowers made even prettier under the dark moody sky:) We saw a few waders in the river including some Curlews but best of all were a dozen Egrets sitting together in the small lake near Levington Creek. We continued onto the boardwalk which was very overgrown but no deer today. It was then back onto the river path and back to the van for some yummy fresh bread and Mags homemade rhubarb jam while watching the boat action on the Orwell. The large wooden barge was sailing slowly up from Ipswich just as the smaller wooden Smacks were returning past Felixstowe docks. With the winds light it took awhile for them to reach us but I managed to get some pics. It was then back to Felixstowe to get ready for a 18th birthday of a young lady Mag childminded from the age of 3 months, that made us fill very old! We had a great catch-up seeing several kids we looked after, top food too:) And tomorrow is looking promising for a early morning windsurfing/foiling session on the Stour, fingers crossed the wind plays ball!
